Dwars door Vlaanderen. Van der Poel schlägt Nils Pollit

Dwars door Vlaanderen ist der Auftakt. Für das das, für was die die flämische Sportwelt eigentlich lebt. Die Flandern Rundfahrt. Kein anderes Renne, nicht mal die Tour de France, beherrscht so das Gemüt des Landes.

Natürlich muss es deshalb auch ein Vorspiel geben. Quasi eine 0. Halbzeit. Das ist nun mal Dwars door Vlaanderen. Entsprechend stehen schon reichlich Zuschauer am Streckenrand rum um Oudenaarde. Dort wird der finale Höhepunkt fürs nächste Wochenende vorbereitet. Sonntag ist Oudenaarde. Ich glaube nicht, dass einige Fans ihren Platz bis dahin verlassen werden. Besonders, wenn sie ein Wohnmobil haben.

Aber auch heute ging es ordentlich zur Sache. Eine fünfköpfige Gruppe, darunter Nils Politt von Bora hansgrohe, machte sich 30 km nach dem Start auf die Socken und wurde erst wieder 40 Km vor dem Ziel eingeholt. Bis dahin hatten sie fast 6 Minuten Vorsprung. Zwischenzeitlich. Sie wurden auch nicht vom Peloton eingeholt. Sondern von einer sechsköpfigen Ausreißergruppe mit denFavoriten für den Tag. Nur einer war nicht dabei. Tadej Pogacar vom Team hatte den Abgang verschlafen und bemühte sich verzweifelt um den Anschluss an die Verfolgergruppe. Die starken Fahrer, darunter Mathieu Van der Poel und Stefan Küng, hatte aber gar keinen Bock auf den schnellen Slowenen. Der verhungerte 15 Sekunden hinter ihnen und musste einesehen, dass sein Platz heute erst ein mal im Peloton war.

40 Kilometer vor dem Ende ereichten die Verfolger die Spitzengruppe. Einige von denen fuhren weiterhin mit. Darunter Nils Pollit. Obwohl hinten noch zahlreiche Attacken lanciert wurden, blieben die Jungs vorne nun ungeschoren. Sie machten das Rennen untersich aus. Victor Campeaerts von Lotto Soudal versuchte es als erster. Doch da waren die Jungs noch stark. er wurde wieder gestellt. Gut einen Kilometer vor der Ziel konnten dan Tiejs Benoot und Mathieu Van der eine entscheidende Lücke herausfahren. Bennot gab kurz vor der Ziellinie auf und überließ Van der Poel den Sieg. Nils Politt wurde dann noch Fünfter. Immerhin einen Platz vor Stefan Küng.
