War es der Schnee und die Kälte? War es die Hoffnungslosikeit? Man weiß es nicht.  Bei der Volta Limburg kamen jedenfalls nicht viele durch. April April. Der verzögerte Aprilscherz bracht nach den langen warmen Tagen den Schnee zurück. Man in der zweiten Liga unter sich. Morgen wird die Flandern Rundfahrt angepfiffen. Da zeigen sich die Big Boys lieber nicht in der Provinz. 

Alle? Nein nicht alle. Tom Dumoulin zum Beispiel. Der Niederländer machte auf Lokalkollorit und hielt sogar bis zum Ende durch. Rang 6 war dann aber nicht das gewünschte Ergebnis. Gewonnen hat  Arnaud De Lie. Dumoulin wird sicher gefragt haben, wer das nun sein.

Die Kreisel im Süden der provinz Limburg laden ja gerade zu austseigen ein. Man kommt immer wieder auf der 195 km langen irgendwo vorbei, wo man vorher schon vorbeigeschaut hat. Allerdings nicht am Ziel. So wird die Kälte und die Hoffnungslosigkeit die meisten bewogen haben, die Verpflegungswagen aufzusuchen. 

Viele der Jungs haben trotz der Blase oder gerade deswegen eine Covidinfektion hinter sich. Die Masken sind ja oft nur eine nette Show für die Kameras. Das musste jetzt auch Wout van Aert erleben. Omikron ist halt nicht zu unterschätzen. Jedenfalls will man sich zusätzlich keine der üblichen Frühjahrsinfektion einfangen.

Deshalb sind sind am Ende nur 40 Mann übergeblieben. Mit dabei war sogar ein deutscher Fahrer vom Team DSM development. Der Youngster Hannes Wilksch hielt bis zum Ende durch, trotz des Rückstandes vom mehr als 5 Minuten.

Die anderen deutschen Profis vom Team Lotto Soudal schenkten sich die Zielkurve. Hauptsache einer der ihren hat gewonnen.
